Huntly is situated 1 hour south of Auckland & ½ an hour north of Hamilton. All suggested venues are only a few minutes off SH1 or on major roads.

The Gardener’s Sharp-eye View

Morning:

Tour the glorious gardens, sit on one of our may garden seats and enjoy the birdsong. We give you a detailed plant list to help identify the treasures you will find. Allow 1¼ hours for a morning visit, add ¼ hour if you would like a complimentary talk on the Garden's history. Cost $10pp, bookings to parnassus@xtra.co.nz

Lunch:

Travel on to the fabulous Hamilton Gardens & enjoy your packed picnic lunch in one of the wonderful sheltered gardens or at the Turtle Lake café. Then spend several hours exploring. The Tropical Display House was opened in mid 1960 and the plans for Hamilton Gardens drawn up in 1967 but it is the Paradise Gardens Collection that set the Hamilton Gardens apart from any other public garden in New Zealand. The development of these gardens, that are each representative of a different style of garden, is exciting and on-going, which means there is always something new to enjoy. The paths are mostly flat easy walking & allow all-weather access. Cost : Free of charge if picnicking or the cost of your choice at the café..

Afternoon:

Take the Gordonton Road out of Hamilton & indulge yourself! First there is Burtons Nursery, then a few kilometres along the road Wairere Gardens & Nursery and finally The Pot Shop at Gordonton Village & a coffee at The Firepot Café before getting back on the coach for the homeward journey.
